Fructose is a glucose organic chemical compound, or monosaccharide(simple sugar), similar to glucose, and which differs mainly from the latter as it is of a rather chaotic type rather than aldose; then chemically combined with the latter, forms the most well-known sucrose disaccharide. Both are important in human and animal nutrition, often used as sweeteners and in the food industry of cakes and bacon.
In nature, it is present, in solid or liquid solution, in most sugary fruits and their related juices, hence in honey, and in a lower percentage, in different plants, such as sugar beet or sugar cane, from which however the most famous sucrose is derived.
Fructose is the sweetest of all kinds of sugars.
In seminal fluid it is normally found as produced by seminal vesicles under the androgenic stimulus. A lower content of fructose than normal (2.0 – 5.0 mg / ml) may indicate a infection of the seminal vesicles or even an insufficient secretion of androgen hormones.
Principio del test
The D – (-) – fructose is transformed into ATP presence by the hekchinase (EK) in fructose 6-phosphate, which is converted from phosphoglucoisomerase (PGI) into glucose-6-phosphate, which in turn is transformed into 6-phosphogluconate from the G6PDH, with NADPH formation. The concentration of the latter is proportionally measured at 340 nm.
Type of analysis: end point. Pre-dilution of the sample (diluent provided in the kit).
Ratio R1 / Sample / R2: 50/1 / 1.25. Stechiometry of reaction: R1 / Sample / R2: 1000/20/25 ml.
