MCA (Mucinous Carbidratic Antigen) is a glycoprotein whose production is in the epithelium of the glandular duodenal ducts. The molecule has been identified by producing specifically developed antibodies against neoplastic breast tissue structures. Its use is primarily to monitor patients after medical and / or surgical therapy: in fact, an elevation can suggest recurrence or metastasis. Slight MCA increases in the third trimester of pregnancy and lactation may rarely have an increase in chronic inflammatory sight of discrete entities.
The figure shows the main tumor markers and related tissues involved.
