| Neopterine is a low molecular weight molecule that is part of the chemical group known under the name of pteridine. It is synthesized by an immune cellular reaction of macrophages and dendritic cells on stimulation by interferon-g cytokine and is consequently released. Neopterin values reflect the totality of immunological processes for monocytes / macrophages and dendritic cells and can be considered as a generic marker of immune activity. This particular feature of Neopterine to reflect the various interactions between immunocompetent cells constitutes the basic reason for the extraordinary condition for which, in the immunological diagnosis, the measurement of Neopterin is carried out.
