La Neopterina & egrave; a low molecular weight molecule that is part of the chemical group known under the name of pteridine. It is synthesized by an immune cellular reaction of macrophages and dendritic cells on stimulation by interferon-g cytokine and is consequently released. Neopterin values reflect the totality of immunological processes for monocytes / macrophages and dendritic cells and can be considered as a generic mark of immune activity. This particular feature of Neopterine to reflect the various interactions between immunocompetent cells constitutes the basic reason for the extraordinary condition for which, in the immunological diagnosis, the measurement of Neopterin is carried out. As a non-invasive method, the determination of urinary / creatinine neoplastic ratio; equally useful in monitoring the evolution of pathologies and the effects of therapies. An increase in neopterin & egrave concentrations; was found in patients with viral infections, suggesting that an increase in the values can result from the immune response of direct patients to viral-infected cells. An increase in the values of neopterin precedes, in various infections, their clinical manifestation and seroconversion. Neopterin measurement in blood donor samples & egrave; therefore a useful tool to reduce the risk of infection by blood transfusion. |
